Cuticle Oil
Cuticle oil is the cheapest retail add-on in a salon and the one that most visibly protects the work already on the nail. Oil keeps the eponychium supple so it lifts cleanly at the next fill, reduces hangnails, and stops the sidewall from drying and pulling at a gel edge. C8 Nail Supply carries the professional standards alongside salon-size refills: CND SolarOil in 0.25oz, 0.5oz, 2.3oz and 4oz, OPI Nail & Cuticle Oil 0.5oz, Gelish Nourish 0.5oz, Cuccio Grapeseed Hand Anti-Oxidant Oil 1oz, LeChat Perfect Match Dip Cuticle Oil 0.5oz, Apres Cuticle Serum 0.5oz, V Beauty Pure 0.5oz, Royal 15ml, and the Cre8tion Love in Bloom scented range in Jasmine, Lavender, Lemon, Orange, Rose and Tea Tree. Gallon sizes are stocked for refill stations. Many nail oils are built on nut-derived carrier oils, so check the ingredient list with any client who reports a nut allergy.
Pair daily oil with a full color service in OPI nail polish or DND gel polish, tidy the cuticle first with cuticle nippers, and finish the natural nail with a gel top coat.
Frequently Asked Questions — Cuticle Oil
What does cuticle oil actually do?
Cuticle oil conditions the skin around the nail plate and the nail itself, keeping the eponychium flexible rather than dry and split. Softer surrounding skin means fewer hangnails, cleaner cuticle work at the next appointment, and less lifting at the sidewalls of a gel or acrylic set.
How often should you apply cuticle oil?
Daily is the usual professional recommendation, and twice daily for clients with very dry hands or frequent hand washing. It is a maintenance product rather than a one-time treatment, so consistency matters far more than the amount applied.
What is the difference between cuticle oil and SolarOil?
SolarOil is CND's specific branded formula rather than a product category. It is a lightweight blend led by sweet almond oil with jojoba and vitamin E, designed to absorb quickly rather than sit on the surface. Because sweet almond is a tree nut oil, check the label before using it on a client with a nut allergy. Other cuticle oils are built on grapeseed, jojoba or vitamin blends with different weights and absorption rates.
Can you use cuticle oil over gel and dip manicures?
Yes. Oil applied to the surrounding skin and the free edge does not break down a cured gel or sealed dip finish, and it helps the manicure look fresh by keeping the surrounding skin from flaking. Apply after the service is fully cured and cleansed. Oil before or during application is a different matter and will interfere with adhesion.
