Kupa: The E-File Pioneers Powering Pro Nail Techs

Electric files, lamps & gel systems · Est. 1984 · Anaheim, CA

Kupa Inc is a professional nail company founded in 1984 in Southern California and best known for pioneering the electric nail file. Its MANIPro e-files — including the portable MANIPro Passport — plus KP handpieces, battery-powered MANIPro Glo LED/UV lamps, GelFinity soak-off coats, and EnrichRx builder gels have made it one of the most trusted equipment names on professional nail tables.

Walk any nail trade show floor and you'll spot the same machine clipped to tech after tech's belt: a MANIPro Passport. For four decades Kupa has been the brand pros trust for filing power that lasts a full day of clients — and at C8 Nail Supply it's one of our most-requested equipment lines.

The Story

Kupa was founded in 1984 by Robert Upshaw and Kito Ochi — the name is an acronym of Kito, Upshaw and Associates. Both came from the dental world, where electric files had long been used to shape acrylics, and they saw that the young, fast-growing nail industry needed the same precision tools built for its own techs. That dental-lab DNA became the first professional e-files for nails, and the company has been refining the idea ever since from its home base in Anaheim, California. Today the family spans the MANIPro Passport, Passport NEXT and PLUS, MANIPro Hana, MANIPro Original 2.0, and a full ecosystem of bits, lamps, gels and tools.

What Techs Love About It

Ask around the pro community and the same three themes come up: the all-day battery and portability of the Passport control box, the smooth, low-vibration power of the KP handpieces that keeps hands from fatiguing between clients, and the durability — techs praise Kupa machines that are still running strong after many years of daily salon work. It's equipment you buy once and build a career on.
