Meet Gelish
The original gel polish — 15 years in the bottle
Gelish: The Original Gel Polish
Gelish is the professional soak-off gel polish brand from Hand & Nail Harmony — the line that put gel in a bottle with a brush and created the gel-polish category. It launched in 2010, is celebrating 15 years as the original gel polish, and now spans over 200 shades plus a full advanced nail system: Foundation base gel, Top It Off sealer, Structure and Brush-On Builder gels, Soft Gel tips, PolyGel, dip, prep and the 18G LED lamps.
If you cure gel for a living, you have used this system — or you are using something that copied it. Gelish is the brand nail techs learned the modern gel service on, and it is still the one salons build their color wall around. At C8 Nail Supply we carry the Gelish line deep, from the Dynamic Duo up to the 18G Plus lamp.
The Story
Hand & Nail Harmony was founded in 2009 by Danny Haile, a competition nail artist who had built his reputation on the competition circuit — including as a two-time international champion in pink-and-white acrylic. He saw the gap that everyone in the industry had accepted as normal: gel lived in a pot, polish lived in a bottle, and the two had nothing to do with each other. Gelish, launched in 2010, merged them — a brush-on, LED-cured, soak-off gel in a polish bottle. It was the first of its kind, and the format is now the industry standard. Today Gelish is produced by Nail Alliance – North America in Brea, California, alongside its sister lacquer brand Morgan Taylor, and the company holds PETA cruelty-free certification.
The brand has not coasted on being first. The current "Gold Standard" generation brought a redesigned brush with laser-cut domed bristles and a higher bristle count for smoother, better-controlled application, plus a repackaged bottle that is easier to hold and extends the life of the product.
What Gelish Is Known For
Tech Favorites at C8
In the 18G LED light, Gelish Foundation cures in 5 seconds, each coat of color in 30 seconds, and Top It Off in 30 seconds. Under UV, allow 1 minute for Foundation and 2 minutes for color and top coat. For removal: break the shine with a 100/180 buffer, then soak 10–15 minutes with Artificial Nail Remover and the Wrap It Off foil system — no heavy filing.
What Techs Love About It
Across the pro community, Gelish earns consistent praise for three things: wear time — clients come back with the manicure intact, not chipped at day nine; the brush and application, which techs say lays down smoother and self-levels better than most of the field, especially since the Gold Standard redesign; and the predictability of the system — Foundation, color, Top It Off and the 18G lamp are timed to each other, so the service runs the same way every single time. The trade-off techs mention most often is price per bottle, which is exactly why the salon-quantity pricing matters.
